We've updated our periodontal e-learning resource, giving you the chance to earn CPD and develop your knowledge of this key aspect of dentistry.

Produced in association with the British Society of Periodontology, our comprehensive periodontal e-learning resource covers both the clinical and dento-legal aspects of managing periodontal disease.

It was originally launched in 2017, and has now been updated to reflect the changes made to how periodontitis is classified. The course offers three hours of verifiable CPD for dental professionals over the course of six sections, with a short assessment at the end to test your learning and knowledge.

Leo Briggs is the deputy head of the DDU, and has an MSc in periodontology from the Eastman Dental Institute, London, as well as being on the GDC's specialist register. "I am delighted that the DDU/BSP periodontal e-learning programme is available for people to access, following an extensive update," he says.

"This CPD course has been very popular since it was first launched in 2017, so it is great that the continuing collaboration between the BSP and the DDU has enabled us to re-launch the programme.

"I would like to thank everyone at the BSP who has worked on this project. People have been generous with both their time and expertise."

Professor Philip Preshaw, president of the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, also commented on the re-launch. "This e-learning programme is a great resource for dental professionals," he says.

"It is comprehensive, easy to navigate, and covers all the relevant aspects of screening, assessment, diagnosis and treatment, with a strong emphasis on good record-keeping and patient information. It has been extensively updated and the new design looks absolutely great.

"This CPD course is an excellent example of what can be achieved by collaboration between organisations, and its success is testament to the hard work and commitment of colleagues at both the BSP and DDU. Many congratulations to all at DDU on the successful launch of this updated online resource."
